Sunday saw Liverpool head to Valley Parade to take on Bradford City in a preseason friendly which also doubled as an amazing charity match for an amazing cause. This game was to raise funds for the Darby Rimmer MND foundation and to me nothing was more important than honouring the club legend and his close friend who both suffer from motor neurone disease, back last year when it was announced that Darby was having to retire due to this condition I was devastated, Darby is one of my all time favourite City players and a club hero.
It was great to see Valley Parade absolutely packed out with fans from both sides coming together for a great cause, I think it is safe to say plenty will have been raised for the charity.
Liverpool turned up in numbers and it was nice to see quite a few big names appearing in the line up, such as Oxlade Chamberlain, Milner, Lallana and of course Origi. I honestly thought they would just bring a bunch of kids but it was great to see these players especially Harry Wilson who has the makings of being an absolutely brilliant player. It was also my first chance to see Gary Bowyer's new City side in action seen as we have bought a lot of new players since the close of last season.
Honestly I think after watching yesterday and despite the score line being 3-1 thinks are really looking a lot better for Bradford's chances in league 2, after a shocker of a season last season this is where these players are going to be able to prove themselves to the manager and the fans who they already seem to be winning back. It just looks like morale is way higher already just after watching the warm ups the players looked a lot closer. Some stand out players for me though were French, Gibson, Scannell and Vaughan. With these players working together I can see up actually winning games and that Vaughan & Donaldson partnership up top could be lethal.
Overall the score line didn't matter in a game like this and it was a great day for a great cause and I hope to see City doing more fundraising for the charity in the future too. Who knows I may even do my own fundraising for the charity in the future.
