How I Style My Hair Now It Is Finally Short Again

After struggling with much longer hair for far too long this past year due to the lock down's now it is back to the length I prefer it at I have found I am spending a lot more time styling it and making sure it is looking the best it can each and every day. I have always enjoyed having shorter hair as I can style it just as I like it and honestly it just make me feel more me and much more confident, that is why as soon as I could I booked into the hairdressers to get it back to just how I liked it.

Over the years I have purchased a lot of products to help me get the perfect style and I use products on my hair daily to ensure I get the right style and hold which has meant every morning I have plenty of options of what I want to use that day although sometimes I just really can't make my mind up on what I want to use. So here is how I typically style my hair...

First up I wash my hair using the Johnny's Chop Shop born lucky shampoo which has a shot of conditioner in it. I have found this works really well for my hair and it has actually been my go to shampoo for a few years now. It is a really reasonable price and has never caused me any issues, a bottle of this lasts me quite a while too.

The next step all depends on how much time I actually have and what stage my hair is at in length. Due to it being short it actually dries pretty quickly so most days I will just towel dry my hair however, if I am in a bit of a hurry I will use my hairdryer on a medium heat just to speed up the drying process a little bit. Before my hair is fully dry I will apply a little bit of argan oil as I love how this makes my hair feel as I feel it is in a little better condition when I use that.

When I towel dry my hair I will brush this into position as it is almost dry as then it is drying in the place it should be and I aren't having to mess around with getting my totally dry hair into position as I have found this can be a complete nightmare. Once it is in position and ready to be properly styled the process is massively sped up and plain sailing as I have my products in order of their use.

First up in the styling process I will apply some VO5 thickening powder as my hair is quite thin and really benefits from the extra boost this product provides. This is a relatively new purchase and I absolutely love how easy it is to use. Just apply the powder to your roots, rub it in and you are good to go. I have definitely noticed a difference since I have started using this and I will be repurchasing it when it has run out.

Once the thickening powder is on I will use what I have left of my VO5 fluff tamer to just tame any stray hairs I have, these are normally on the sides where my hair is shaved but a small amount of the fluff tamer does the trick. My only problem is that this is now discontinued so I need to find a replacement for when this runs out as this is a life saver most days.

When that is all done it is onto the penultimate and most important part of styling my hair... applying the main product. For ages I just used a VO5 paste however, I am now using the Got2B beach matt paste. This little tub is lasting me a while and cost me under £5 which is fantastic. It is really easy to apply and just a small amount goes a long way so you really do get great value for the price you pay. What I have noticed with this is that once applied you can't see the product which is fantastic as I have had ones in the past that have left me needing to wash my hair again which is a nightmare. This paste helps give me the perfect style and holds for 90% of the day until I start messing around with it, even when I have been caught in the rain my hair hasn't budged thanks to the paste.

Finally I hold my hairstyle in place with the Got2B glued hairspray which I am still unsure about, yes it gives a fantastic hold but it has a very strong glue smell to it which does drive me a bit mad. This has been my go to hairspray for a while now but I do tend to switch between different ones every few month. This one is great though as even in the rubbish British weather I can go out without a hood or hat and still be confident it isn't going to move, even in the strong winds my hair doesn't move thanks to this.

I tend to stick to using a roller brush or comb to do my hair as they are perfect for my short length and you can pick them up pretty cheap which is always an added bonus. So that is how I currently style my hair, it is so good having my hair back to a short length once again because it just gives me a bit of a confidence boost which I am always grateful for. I never thought a hairstyle could make me feel so good about myself but after that time of it being too long during lock down I have realised just how much a short hair cut can do for me.

What are some of your favourite hair styling products or tools?

Hair Styling Collection

One thing I can't get enough of is hair products. I change what I used daily every couple of weeks just to try help me get through my ever growing collection of items. When we moved we got some plastic cupboards for our bathroom and I have claimed one of the drawers just for my hair products, at first I didn't think I had a lot but on closer inspection I have realised I have far too many. Not pictured are my current rotation of products which are the VO5 fluff tamer, R+Co Dallas thickening spray, Johnny's chop shop volumising mousse and blue beards revenge paste but here are the items I need to try get using...

v05 hair collection

VO5 is definitely the brand I have most products of. I have 2 back up tins of fluff tamer as this is one of my go to products due to how well it works. I also have their clay to give a go, along with a matt paste that has just been switched out of my rotation I haven't been finding this too bad. I then have a gel which came in a set at Christmas time a textured quiff spray I got a few days a go which I cant wait to try and finally a matt definition spray which also came in a gift set. VO5 to me are a very good brand especially for the price range and it is so easy to buy as most supermarkets stock it.

fish hair collection
.
Fish are a brand I discovered through the blog as they got in touch for me to review a selection of their products. I quickly fell in love with them and I keep switching this wax and putty in and out of my rotation. I also picked up the wax stick from the pound shop and so far it is so good. Fish are another reasonably priced brand which I need to test out more of their products.

johnnys chop shop collection

A brand I discovered the other year was Johnny's chop shop, I became obsessed with their hairspray which then lead me to trying out more of their items. As you can see the only shampoo I used was the born lucky one for a while which the family picked up on and I ended up receiving 4 bottles at Christmas, I am well and truly stocked up. The hobo hair has been a lifesaver since I got it for those days I am just lounging around and not too bothered about doing my hair. The texturising spray is another item I have loved for a while and keeps finding its way into the rotation every few months. The clay is something I am still to try seen as I only picked it up to make full use of the boots 3 for 2 offer.

hair collection

A few random ones here are the Brylcreem which seems to be ok for my hair but I really need to try use it a little more as I have a lot I need to get through. The Shockwaves gel spray is another one I picked up just because it was cheap, I haven't opened this yet but I will be sure to give it a try soon. Then I have this Toni & Guy rough texturiser which I actually got from my mum, she didn't want it anymore so I said I would take it off her hands and see what I thought of it.

lynx hair products

I have mentioned the Lynx hair collection on here a few times in the past and I love them. I need to finish off these tins then I think I may hold off buying them as I need to get through so many others but when I have these in reach I just go straight for them at their low price though they are handy to keep stocked up on.

fudge hair products

Fudge are a brand I will go mad with or just go for ages without buying anything. Currently I have this raspberry styling mousse that isn't too bad but I don't tend to use very often. I also have the blow dry creme which is to help create a messy look. It actually does work when I blow dry my hair but with my hair so short I don't usually dry it. This is also the same case with the heat defence spray it isn't often I use heat on my hair these days but when I do this really helps.

Finally we have just a couple of miniatures which I keep around just in case I have a small trip away. It isn't often I am away from home for a while but if I have somewhere to be I will just through these in my bag. Also these are perfect for if I was to head out straight from work and my hair needed a little touch up.

So there you have it those are the products I really need to start working through instead of going out and buying new items. Would you like to see me do a brand focus on any hair items? Let me know in the comments below.

See you soon

Lynx Clay

Earlier this year I reviewed the Lynx Pomade which you can catch up on here, the pomade was actually quite enjoyed using but this clay is definitely my favourite. I think my hair works best with clay and pastes, this clay is one I always find myself reaching for, in fact I have had to store it away for a little bit as I catch up on using all the other hair products I have bought to try.
Packaging
Just like the pomade the packaging for this clay is very simple, however the addition of the hold marker makes it super easy to work out at a glance whether the product will do for the day or not. I have had plenty of days where this tin has been thrown in a bag, the lid stays firmly shut however the tin does get dented pretty easily. But as long as you don't mind a dented tin it is perfect for at home or to take on your holidays.
Scent
This in my opinion smells just like the pomade. Which if you read that post you will know I said I quite liked however I honestly thought it may smell a little different seen as Lynx are known for their variety of scents.
Texture + Application
The great thing about this is that it is a matte looking product therefore gives my hair its natural look, which is something I prefer from a hair product. It didn't take a long time to get used to applying this as it is super easy to use. You can't see any of the product left over in your hair and a little goes a long way. All you need to do is get a small amount, warm it in your hands and just apply to the hair.
Hold
For my hairstyle I need to have quite a strong hold or my hair just goes flat and my hair begins to look ridiculous. It also needs to last a while as I don't like having to redo my hair whilst working, so it needs to last 8am until at least 5.30pm, which whilst using this product it is actually capable of doing.
Overall
I love this product and I honestly think I will repurchase over and over again. I got this for around £3.00 so it is definitely worth the price seen as it actually works and isn't visible in the hair. It is also something I would recommend to everyone else.

Mankind Hair Wishlist

By now you all probably know how bad I am with my hair. It has to be perfect otherwise I aren't happy which my family are starting to realise. It is my hair I spend most on in the morning. I am currently wanting to try out new products and after browsing mankind I have found the ones I want the most.

Mitch Clean Cut Cream - £14.95

I have wanted to try some of the Mitch products for a while now and I have currently started styling my hair a little different. So I believe now is the perfect time to try a cream instead of my usual clay.

American Crew daily moisturising shampoo - £7.96

My hair is becoming a little dry now and my hair seems to have gotten used to my current shampoo so I think it is time to make a change. The daily moisturising shampoo is standing out to me as I am hoping it will bring a bit of life back to my hair.

Be Bop Brush - £2.75

This is something the barber I go to uses on my hair. Not only does it create the perfect style with ease it also massages your scalp and feels super good when used. This is something I will be buying as soon as possible.

Wahl Max Pro - £15.99

I have only recently begun using a hair dryer again. Before I would just towel dry my hair and hope for the best. But I have found using a hair dryer adds extra volume and helps me create a better style. I am at the stage now where I am sick of having to steal the dryer my mum and sister share or having to wait whilst they take forever to do their hair. This is why I have my eye on this, I have wanted to try a Wahl product and at this price you can't go wrong.

Seen anything you want from mankind? Hope you like this post see you soon.

Morning Essentials

I never used to take long to get ready in a morning but now I seem to take longer and longer as I add more and more products into it. First up I use the L'Oreal men expert tattoo reviver on my arms as I am determined to keep them looking bold as long as possible. I am on the look out for a full body moisturiser too if anyone has any recommendations.

One my arms are done it is onto the face, I start off using the Nip Fab cleaning pads followed by the Nivea toner. I am also currently using the Byron Bay moisturiser which I am loving, but a full post is coming up on that soon.

Once the face is done it is onto fragrance. I have used the Lynx attract for a long time now only swapping it for the male Lynx. Once deodorant is on it is time for my perfume. I am using the Ralph Lauren Big Pony No.2 at the moment however I believe I only have a few days left of this. If I am heading out for the night or going somewhere fancy I use the Zadig & Voltair that I got after Christmas.

The final step in the morning is always the longest because it is my hair. I like my hair to look its best so first up I get it to the style I want using my tangle teezer and then put the finishing style in place with my Johnny's chop shop comb I got in a set after Christmas.  I have also gotten back into straightening my hair a little just to get rid of any kinks and make sure its not stuck up at ridiculous angles.

Once the hair is in place it is a choice on what products I want to use. Some times I will use the Fudge styling mousse but this isn't very often. My go to at the moment is the Lynx clay or Fish wax as I find these give the best result. Other times I may give the Lynx wax a go every now and again too. Every day though the products that definitely get used are the Fudge hairspray and Vo5 fluff tamer to make sure the look is completed.

So there you have it that is what I use daily. I hope you liked this post and I will see you soon.

February Favourites

Wow it is only the 2nd of March and I am already posting my favourites, this must be a first. Honestly I haven't tried much new in February but some great things have happened.

First off a favourite of mine is the Nip Fab cleansing pads. I have used them everyday in Feb and am seriously noticing a difference in my skin. I aren't going into too much detail on these though as I have a whole post dedicated to this coming very soon.

The Vo5 is once again one of my favourites. It is my sisters engagement party on the 11th of March and I have been trying to leave my hair to grow so I can get it cut just before. This has meant the side that gets shaved has now become a very fluffy mess. The Vo5 however actually does calm it down just a little.

The L'Oreal men's expert tattoo reviving moisturiser is another I won't go into too much detail on however I love it. I use it daily, it is bringing out the colour in my tattoos and also leaving my skin super soft.

I have also gotten back into reading in February. The book I am currently on is Bruce Springsteen - born to run. I aren't very far but so far so good.

February was also a big month as I got to see Tegan and Sara twice. This meant getting to see my little Tegan and Sara family again which couldn't get better. The first show I was lucky enough to get meet and greet tickets for so I was over the moon as you can see in my previous post. The shows were amazing and the company was awesome. I was also lucky enough to meet Ria Mae and Alex Lahey at both shows. I am in love with all their music now so that is an extra bonus.

My final favourite of the month is this Brewdog IPA called Elvis Juice. I first had this to settle my nerves before meeting Tegan and Sara. I can honestly say I am hooked. This one is tastes just like grapefruit.

So there you have it those are just a few of my favourite things from February.

Hope you liked this post and I will see you all soon.

Fish Hairspray

The lovely people over at Fish Soho were kind enough to send me a few products to try. The first of which was this amazing Fish fishsticks hairspray.

I hadn't used Fish hair products in the past so I wasn't sure what to expect. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. It wasn't sticky and even in the typical British winter it has kept an exceptional hold. It has quickly become one of my favourites and I will definitely be repurchasing.

I go through hairspray so fast and this only lasted me around 3 weeks but this is actually a week more than a can usually last so I have to say the also adds to the reason why I would repurchase. It does make my hair feel a little solid in parts but honestly that could just be due to how much I use.

Overall I can see me using more and more fish products. Including the couple of items I currently have in my draw to test. You can get Fish Soho products at Boots.

Hope you liked this post and I will see you all soon.

Gunk Go shampoo

I used to find it an absolute nightmare to get rid of all the hair products I used daily. But then I stumbled across this Vo5 Gunk Go shampoo in my local poundland. This is my 4th bottle of this shampoo and unfortunately I can't find it any more so I guess I am on the look out for something similar now.

What I love most about this is that it does exactly what it says on the bottle the gunk really does go. Daily I use the Vo5 fluff tamer, Lynx styling clay and Johnny's chop shop hairspray so I need to get rid of all the gunk out. It doesn't take a lot of this shampoo to do the job just a small pea size amount works just fine, meaning this lasts quite a while. Once this has been used my hair is back to it's normal fluffy out of control self.

If I could find this again I would definitely buy a lot of bottles just to get stocked up. Can you recommend a replacement for this product? Let me know on twitter or in the comments below.

Hair haul

So once again the no spending has gone straight out of the window. Once again it is hair products I have bought like I need any more. I love when boots do 3 for 2 and when you can find complete bargains in the poundshop. So here is what I bought.

I went into Poundland just to see if they had anything in as sometimes you can pick up some great products. Lone behold I found these Fish hair products, now in boots these can vary in price up to something like £8.99. Been a big fan of trying new hair products there was no way I was leaving these behind. I managed to pick up the Soho Kingfisher wax and this sculpting stick I haven't seen anywhere else before. I can't wait to try both these products out.

I then went to my local candle shop Tigers eye where I finally managed to get my hands on the barbershop Yankee candle. I had been looking for this for a while and after just a few burns so far I am loving it. But that is all going to be in another post another day.

Next stop was the boots 3 for 2 on men's hair care offer. This has given me the perfect chance try out the Johnny's chop shop range. I first saw the range on Instagram and knew instantly I had to give it a go. On the offer I picked up 2 hairsprays, 1 can of hobo hair dry shampoo,  1 shampoo and a texturising spray. My other half also got the moisturiser from this range. Again this is all I will say on this as I do have another post planned soon.

So there you go as you can see the spending ban is going well. Have any products you recommend let me know in the comments below.

Vo5 texturising gum

I am sorry guys but it is yet another hair post. I promise this will be the last one this week. Today is all about the Vo5 texturising gum. I have been using this for a while now and I love it, I will use this one the days I can't be bothered to find the rework putty. Like the putty this doesn't leave your hair too gunky however does give it a great hold.  At great value I also have the bigger tub of this and I will repurchase again. I find some products leave my hair looking like it is stuck to my head however this doesn't it makes it look styled but natural with an added bit of texture.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Have you tried this? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Vo5 texture rework putty

To be completely honest with you I had never tried a putty until recently. I got this miniature for when I went to Paris back in August. I have since repurchased a big tub for this due to the hold it gave me.  Vo5 is a brand I have always given a try and to be honest I love the products.

Even in the heat of Paris when my hair normal frizzes my hair didn't shift.  I honestly thought the putty would be sticky and visible in my hair however it didn't at all it blended right in whilst giving an amazing hold. Another thing that has to happen in a good hair product for me, is that it has to wash out easily in which this really does.  Another thing about this product is that it is also cheap and can often be found on the 2 for £5 deal.

Below is how the product styled my hair and even when I got back from a day in the Disney park it looked no different.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

So there you have it that is one of my favourite products at the moment, what hair products do you recommend as I am always on the look out for new brands to try?
