As part of upgrading my life I am planning on finally locking in and working on my style. My current idea around clothing has just been to throw on any old items due to a lack of confidence however, I need to stop waiting for that confidence to arrive and just start dressing how I want which in turn will probably help that confidence grow too. Going forward I want to go for a more elevated put together look which means gone are the days of jeans, graphic t-shirts and trainers every day and in are days of planning outfits and dressing for the life I want. As I say going forward I want my outfits to looking more luxurious and elevated, colours that match & shapes that actually work together. I also don't want to be buying the same types of items over and over due to them being poor quality, I want to buy better and have those pieces last much longer, I am so over buying cheap and buying twice. I might need to spend more initially for pieces but it should help me on my saving journey in the long run too as I wont be constantly needing to replace items.
In terms of clothing I am going to be looking at doing a full U-turn on what I currently wear. For so long now it has been a t-shirt or football shirt with jeans or cargo's and a pair of beat up trainers. Going forward I want to bring CEO energy to life and dress like I mean business. That is why I am looking at adding to following items into my wardrobe going forward...
Tapered Trousers
I am not one for anything to wide or baggy, it just doesn't suit my body so to replace the daily jeans I would love a wardrobe filled with some quality tapered trousers. These would be absolutely perfect for dressing up or down and can easily be found in a variety of colours and even with a bit of a pattern to them. These would be a pretty big change daily to my jeans but would work so well going forward plus with material choices I can be elevated but comfortable.
Chinos
I absolutely love a good pair of chinos and have done for years now so I want to make sure I have plenty of these in my wardrobe going forward. These are a lot more casual but can also look good dressed up. These would definitely serve me well on days out though and I can already picture the sort of outfits I can build with them.
Linen Trousers
I can't stop looking at linen trousers whilst I am out and about, they are well and truly drawing me in for the warmer weather. I would love to add a few different colours into my wardrobe to cover all types of outfits I have in mind. Going forward I am hoping to be able to travel a lot more so these would be a great addition for a holiday wardrobe too.
Wide Leg Trousers
I know I said earlier I don't tend to go for anything wide leg however, there have been some trousers in the past which have been wide leg and actually suited me. The plan is to add a couple of wide leg pairs into my rotation just to mix things up a bit and help me with some more casual looks I have in mind. The type of trousers I have in mind for this are striped or printed ones.
Shorts
Gone are the days of living in sports shorts & jersey shorts and in comes the smarter shorts. The sort of shorts I am looking at going forward are chino & linen type as these just look so much smarter and again can be dressed up or down depending on the occassion. Granted some denim shorts will be staying to help me on those more casual days but I won't be wearing them daily like I have done previously.
Basic T-shirts
The graphic t-shirts are going at long last and I am opting for the basics going forward, no logo or minimal logos in a variety of colours to go with everything. Some might be a standard t-shirt where as others may be knitted just to offer a bit of a different option. There is no need for me to have absolutely loads of t-shirts like I currently do however, I want to make sure I am well covered for all occassions.
Polo Shirts
I have always loved a good polo shirt however, I haven't always known how to style them. Going forward though I want to get some smarter more feminine looking ones that I can dress up and wear for work. These would be perfect for a smart casual office look with those tapered trousers I am wanting to pick up.
Shirts
I absolutely love a good shirt and I am planning on investing in even more going forward to make them a bit of a work uniform. I want a wardrobe full of shirts to dress up and down, linen, patterned, plain you name it I want them all to make sure I have a shirt for every occassion. I don't just want long sleeved shirts though like I currently have, I want to add some short sleeved ones too.
1/4 Zip's
A nice pair of trousers, a plain t-shirt with a good quality 1/4 zip over the top sounds like a great idea in terms of work outfits. The plan is to save these 1/4 zip purchases until I have hit my goal weight as I would love to purchase the Ralph Lauren 1/4 zips so I need to make sure they will last to be able to justify spending the money on them. I want to keep these in simple colours to go with a whole host of items in my wardrobe & so that I can dress them up and down.
Blazers
To go with the smarter looks I have in mind I need something to throw on if the weather is not the best, especially as I work in a pretty cold office. I used to love dressing up simple outfits with a nice blazer and that is something I plan on doing once more. The aim is to pick up different colours and styles of blazers going forward including some linen ones as the weather starts to get better.
Short Trench Coat
All the jackets I own are sports style which aren't going to work for the style I am aiming for going forward so I think it is finally time to get the short trench coat I have had my eyes on for a while. For so long I have wanted one of these jackets however, I have always thought that it wouldn't suit me. Now is the time to cast the doubt and just give things a try.
Car Coat
Just like with the trench coat I have always wanted a car coat but have never been brave enough to give one a try. Again this changes now and I am going to finally buy those items and get out of the scruffy old clothing. This is really going to help elevate my outfits whilst also helping keep me warm I just need to find the perfect one for me.
Accessories to suit the outfits
Gone are the days of now adding accessories to my outfits or just throwing on a pair of glasses and thinking it is enough. Going forward my plan is to invest in some jewellery, hats, sunglasses and other bits so that I can add the relevant bits to my outfits and make them look so much more put together. I can't wait to grow the accessories and start adding them to my outfits.
Proper Socks
Now this is a bit of a unique one as people probably think socks are socks. Well I get lazy and tend to stick to the sports socks and tend to only buy sports socks. Going forward I need to change these ways and make sure I am wearing crew socks made out of good materials to go with the smarter trousers I am wearing. I also need to get some quality no show socks that will go well with my loafers and are actually no show.
Alongside clothing I need to make sure my footwear is going to help elevate my style, no beat up trainers every day going forward, instead I will be making sure the shoes go with the outfits and are kept clean & in good condition. So here is the footwear I am looking at adding into my rotation going forward...
Loafers
I am wanting to have plenty of loafers in my rotation going forward in different styles so that I have a pair to go with every outfit. A good mix of leather & suede alongside different silhouettes will tick all boxes for me and I can't wait to see what pairs I find that are actually comfortable too.
Boat Shoes
Boat shoes are a type of shoes I have always loved however, they have never really gone with any of the outfits I have previously worn. Going forward I want to get a pair of boat shoes that suit me and the outfits I am putting together but are also comfortable. I can't wait to hunt down the perfect pair of these.
Smart Trainers
I think I am growing up and heading away from the 'hype' trainers now and opting for smarter ones. I don't need all the logos any more something smarter and more elevated is going to go so much better with the outfits I have in mind. My plan is to start off with some Vichy trainers and then maybe shop around for other pairs just to dress up or down an outfit.
City Shoes
I never really thought I would like City shoes however, I have absolutely fallen in love with the ones that Auerlain do. Granted these are expensive so I want to really consider the purchase before I make it and pick the right colourway. I think these could be much easier to style than I initially thought too so I wonder just how much wear I could get out of them.
Driving Shoes
These were a last minute addition to this list but I think these could be great to wear in the summer with some shorts and a nice top. They are just something very different to what I am used to but will help outfits look great. They would be so much better than the Nike's I usually live in over summer.
Sandals
Don't ask me why but for as long as I can remember I have always wore trainers all year round but I know that I want to change things up and a nice pair of sandals would be ideal for the warm weather. The dream would be the chunky Hermes ones however, I need to be a bit more realistic so maybe a nice pair in a similar style will be being purchased in the future.
Which ever shoes I pick up I need to ensure I am looking after them going forward to make them last and get the most out of them. That is why I am looking at purchasing material protectors & shoe trees to help them last longer.
It isn't just going to be fashion that helps me elevate my style going forward, beauty wise things are going to help too and those are simple things like...
A Signature Hair Style
This doesn't have to be anything drastic just something that is neat and tidy. In the past I have run a brush through my hair and called that it but now I am taking time to make it look a lot nicer. Whether is is using the straighteners or styling products, I have a hair style I can manage at long last.
Good hygiene
This is an obvious one but something often overlooked. I have done the bare minimum and my body is paying for it so going forward it is body scrubs, the correct products and even tongue scrapers to help me achieve the hygiene standards I deserve. Even something as simple as rotating towels more often will massively help.
Skincare
My skin has been massively neglected but good clear skin will help elevate any look and I need to keep reminding myself of that. I won't be going overboard with products but a skincare routine on a morning & evening will help get the condition back on track and get me more confident in my skin.
Signature Fragrance
I am going to be finding my signature fragrance which should help tie all the above together and make me stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons. Smelling good and looking good just goes hand in hand and I can't wait for all this to fall into place.
By purchasing the above items & putting in place routines I really should see a massive elevation in my style going forward and the CEO energy should really be brought to life through my choices. I am really hoping that by elevating my style going forward I gain a lot more confidence and feel much happier in my own body going forward. By dressing the part and with intention I should definitely feel elevated and like I am capable of levelling up my life.
It is time to get cracking on with this wardrobe rebuild and see just how much I can elevate my style going forward.
See you soon,
Lucy
